They are graceful, serpent-like creatures with the claws of a great cat and the feathered wings of a bird of prey. Different regions have different species all of which are varying degrees of dangerous and venomus. They are powerful predators of the desert who will happily feed on any creature smaller than them. Giant Scorpions are one of the many strange creatures native to desert regions all across Narazen. Both cultures place value upon the victor of this conflict, believing that if they can win this battle, which is often a battle of wits as much as a battle of strength, they can lead their people. It has an interesting relationship with some of the peoples in the places where it is found: Potential leaders like chieftains and kings challenge potential Uktena leaders in a duel to prove who is the strongest. They are how the Uktena's magic is channeled and have a variety of effects depending on the serpents' intent. The Uktena's horns possess magical properties, but it is its eyes that are most dangerous. The Uktena is found in temperate forests and is carnivorous as well as sapient. The Uktena is one of many different varieties of Horned Serpent found throughout Narazen. It features in the lore and mythologies of many species that build cities in its territory, rarely seen, but very much felt with the occasional signs of its presence. It is omnivorous by nature and while usually passive, if provoked it can be a very dangerous creature indeed. The Mokele-Mbembe is a large saurian creature of unknown origin that can be found in rainforests and swamps throughout Narazen.
